Director of Business Development

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a passionate and driven Director of Business Development to build and grow senior level relationships with potential sponsors for our family of C-Suite communities, with particular focus on The F Suite and other new communities that are in the pipeline. As a key member of our team, you will be charged with scaling our partnership revenue by establishing and nurturing new sponsor relationships that add value to our prestigious membership communities.

This is not your standard BD/sales role. A successful candidate will be able to nurture and care deeply about our partners while being able to consistently demonstrate value so that they deepen their investment with our communities. This is not about the hard sell but about the long-term relationship.

About The Suite

We build high-quality and highly-curated professional communities including The L Suite, with its flagship, TechGC, a private, invite-only community for General Counsels & CLOs of high-growth tech companies and venture funds, and The F Suite, for CFOs, with more to come. Each of our communities is unique, but they are all powered by our custom-built platform which our members like to call “the Braintrust.”

We currently have 4,800+ paid members across our communities, representing C-Suite executives from many of today’s leading tech companies (e.g., Airbnb, Slack, Coinbase, Uber, Notion, Bolt, Figma, Airtable, Dropbox, etc.) and venture funds (e.g., a16z, Softbank, Tiger, Accel, Thrive, Battery Ventures, FirstMark, etc.). 

On the other side of our communities, we have built deep partnerships with the top law firms (e.g., Latham, Cooley, WSGR, Fenwick, Goodwin, S&C, Davis Polk, etc.), legal/fintech vendors (e.g., Ironclad, LinkSquares, DataGrail, Lawtrades, Morgan Stanley at Work, NPM, SpendFlo, etc.), and professional service providers (e.g., Aon, Deloitte, EY, Franklin Square Group, Marsh, Newfront, etc.) that support these executives. These partners engage with our members as thought leaders and valued advisors/resources, and we foster a unique environment where the two sides of our ecosystem can connect through targeted education, networking, and support.

We are a well-funded and rapidly scaling startup with a high-impact team of over 50 people.

Responsibilities

As the Director of Business Development, you will primarily be responsible for managing business development activities within our F Suite and new communities. This includes among other duties, managing inbound leads for these communities, identifying and building new relationships with value-add potential sponsors, owning and growing relationships with existing sponsors, and ultimately driving increased sponsorship revenue through new sales and upsells. While the primary goal of this position is to reach and exceed sponsorship targets, our method for achieving that result is through the development of long-term partnerships that create deep, mutual value. Therefore, in order to be successful in this role, you must develop and maintain senior level relationships with key industry players, ensuring that we’re fulfilling our partners’ goals within the confines of our community rules and that we’re top of mind for all their new business needs.

You will report directly to our VP of Business Development & Partner Success, and your performance will be measured by reaching and exceeding revenue targets that are set by senior leadership. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in a relationship management role supporting strategic solutions, demonstrated experience in business development with a track record of winning, and a strong results orientation to drive retention and new business goals. Experience in startups and/or pre-existing relationships with professional services providers or software vendors supporting startups is a plus.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Drive new sponsorship revenue and meet retention and renewal strategy goals.
  • Build and grow strong relationships with senior level leaders at target organizations so that we stay top of mind throughout the organization as a valued partner.
  • Own and grow relationships with current partners.
  • As needed, assist in the creation of informational materials for partners. This could include sales material, support material, etc.
  • Ensure high levels of Partner satisfaction through regular communication and the establishment of strong relationships with all Partners; ultimately ensuring loyalty through the quality of our community, the quality of our relationships, and the excellent level of responsiveness to their needs
  • Manage forecasts and pipelines, ensuring clear reporting on forthcoming renewals, withdrawals / downsells, additional sales/content opportunities, plus associated revenue and timescales
  • Manage all aspects of the renewal process in a timely and structured manner; including data collation and presenting a compelling business case
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate records within our CRM systems providing timely
    information

Required Qualities: the ideal candidate for this position should have…

  • Proven successful track record in a relationship management role supporting strategic solutions to major companies
  • Demonstrated experience in business development with a track record of winning
  • Strong results orientation to drive to achieve retention and new business goals
  • Excellent relationship building, communication, and collaboration skills across all levels of management, ensuring ongoing credibility and transparency
  • Ability to understand and demonstrate the value proposition for our communities
  • Good project management skills to successfully plan and complete annual renewals and to develop and implement longer-term retention strategies
  • Superior organizational skills, with a solutions-oriented approach to problems and excellent attention to detail. 
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to convey information using a communication style appropriate to the audience.
  • High degree of professionalism, adaptability & tenacity
  • Have a solutions-oriented mindset and willingness to “run into the fire” when it comes to handling customer issues and complaints.
  • Be passionate about making customers happy while also driving broader business objectives.
  • View sales as lines, not dots, with the understanding that long-term customer success is a core part of a successful sales role

Experience

  • 5+ years of proven experience in business development and senior management relationship management (could have been developed in sales, consulting, marketing, business development, financial services, etc.)
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Experience working with enterprise-level clients and accounts.
  • Deep knowledge and relationships in the tech, finance, and/or banking communities are a plus
